Okamoto Award for Young Investigators for Participants at the congress: The Okamoto Award for Young Investigators will be bestowed on Dr. Bong Xiao, who has submitted an abstract in the area of hypertension and related traits. The award prize is 300,000 Japanese yen. |

Genomics Trainee Attendance Award: Genome Canada is proud to support trainee attendance in scientific meetings. A limit of 5 awards of $1000 CAD each will be granted, in the area of “omics”. The award is intended to offset the cost of attendance by trainees to such meetings. Awardees must currently be a trainee (PhD, MSc, PostDoc or Clinical fellows), and a letter of attestation signed by your superior must be provided. To be eligible all trainees must have submitted an abstract and completed their registration for the congress. |

2010 SHR Symposium Unveils International Okamoto Award Winner: One of the special highlights at this 14th international SHR Symposium will be the presentation of the International Okamoto Award by the Japan Vascular Disease Research Foundation. In honour of Dr. Kozo Okamoto’s research in the fields of hypertension, stroke, and diabetes, this award has recognized researchers of distinction. The 2008 winner was ISP Congress organizer Dr. Pavel Hamet. This year, the Japan Vascular Disease Research Foundation celebrates the 100th anniversary of Dr. Okamoto’s birthday. Exceptionally two candidates have been honored: Dr Libby for his great continuous contribution to the Inflammatory Theory of Atherosclerosis; Dr Kurtz for his engagement in basic research on the genetic mechanisms of hypertension and his contribution to the mechanism for treating hypertension and complications related to diabetes. |
